That's why most of the time the solution lies in finding the right balance between tried and tested, handcrafted techniques and the powerful solutions we get working digitally. At oddbody we instinctively know where to draw the line, where the technical part stops serving the story and becomes an end in itself.
This line or no man's land varies from project to project, or even from scene to scene. That's why we also like to previsualise everything as much as possible, so we can see it within context. Once we know the scene or illustration works and reads well, we can work it out in more detail.
Our first book is a good example for this and shows how we created a 3D world through a combination of a painted background, animated layers, simple geometry and suggestive lighting
